Members of the Brown Community,

Yesterday, I met with the senior leadership team of the Division of Campus Life to discuss division leadership following the tragic loss of Vice President for Campus Life Eric Estes, who passed away earlier this week.

I informed them that Russell Carey, Executive Vice President for Policy and Planning, will serve as Interim Vice President for Campus Life, effective immediately. Russell has served in this interim role twice in the past and is knowledgeable about the numerous roles and responsibilities of the division. Russell attended this meeting with the senior leadership of Campus Life, where we discussed plans that will ensure the continuity and stability of the division’s work during this time of transition. He expressed his commitment to supporting the strong team of professionals who work in the division, including as we all continue to cope on a personal level with this week’s heartbreaking news about Eric.

Plans for a search for Brown’s next Vice President for Campus Life will be announced in the coming weeks after further consultation with the division’s leadership team.
