Office of the President

Strategic Planning

President Christina H. Paxson is guiding the fulfillment of a bold strategic vision for strengthening Brown's excellence in education, research and vibrant campus life. Throughout her tenure, President Paxson has led the development of several major strategic planning efforts that define priorities, goals and areas of focus with clear roadmaps for progress. These efforts continue to shape Brown's evolution and growth.

Through Building on Distinction, its 10-year strategic plan launched in 2014, Brown is achieving a higher level of excellence as a university that brings together innovative education and outstanding research and scholarship.
This plan, released in March 2021, establishes a focused set of commitments through which Brown can have the greatest impact on mitigating the effects of campus operations on the natural environment. The Sustainability Strategic Plan is the guiding document for sustainability efforts at Brown.
Aligned with Building on Distinction, this operational plan outlines a comprehensive strategy for targeted investments and increased support structures for faculty, staff and students, as well as investments in facilities that support research, to significantly increase Brown's research capacity and impact.
Shared with the Brown community in May 2024, the Community Engagement Agenda focuses on strengthening and expanding community engagement strategies and initiatives across five key domains through which Brown can coordinate its current resources to make meaningful impact in Providence and Rhode Island.
The Office of the President routinely charges committees, working groups and task forces to study and address issues of community interest, informing the University's evolving priorities and initiatives through strategic planning efforts across a range of areas.
