From the President
Dear Members of the Brown Community,
Earlier this month we held a celebration of life for our dear colleague Eric Estes, who passed away in early June and had served for eight impactful years as Brown’s Senior Vice President for Campus Life. While we continue to mourn Eric’s untimely passing, we must also turn to the task of identifying his successor. I am writing to share the membership of the committee of Brown faculty, staff and students that will help do so. The Vice President for Campus Life search committee comprises the following members:
- Russell Carey, Executive Vice President, Planning and Policy (Co-Chair)
- Françoise Hamlin, Royce Family Associate Professor of Teaching Excellence in Africana Studies and History, Associate Professor of Africana Studies and History (Co-Chair)
- Ian Dell’Antonio, Professor of Physics
- Grace Calhoun, Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff ’78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation
- Michael Grabo, Senior Associate General Counsel
- Kevin LoGiudice, GS
- Niyanta Nepal ’25
- Urvi Tiwari M.D. ’26
- Rashid Zia, Dean of the College, Professor of Engineering and Physics
The committee will be supported in its efforts by national search firm PBR Executive Search, led by Brown alumnus and parent Pamela Riess and her colleague Rebecca Cardwell. Pamela has worked with us on a number of successful searches, and she and Rebecca have already been actively engaged in receiving input and feedback from all staff in the Division of Campus Life.
Members of the Brown community who wish to provide feedback, suggestions and nominate candidates for the position can do so anonymously via this Campus Community Feedback Form. All feedback and suggestions will be reviewed and taken into consideration.
The charge to the committee is to conduct a national search and to recommend to me three unranked candidates for consideration and final selection. I want to thank the members of the committee in advance for their hard work, and extend my deepest appreciation to the staff and students across the Division of Campus Life who are continuing to serve and support the Brown community in the most fitting tribute to Eric’s legacy on this campus.
Sincerely,
Christina H. Paxson
President
